At Kulture Ko, we believe that workplace culture shapes every aspect of a workplace and influences the well-being, growth, and success of every individual involved. I’m Gino Cabigao, the founder of Kulture Ko, and this belief drives our work.
I was born in New York City, raised in New Jersey, worked and lived in the Philippines for 6 years, and now back New Jersey. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Montclair State University in New Jersey with a BA in Classics and Pre-law. Afterwards, I went to New York Law school before starting my journey in HR.
I began my career in Human Resources as an intern with Coach USA, where my days included everything from grabbing coffee for meetings to spending late nights organizing employee files. My passion for a 'humans first' approach truly took root when I conducted initial interviews with applicants and learned about their unique stories—their motivation to work hard for their families in America and abroad, their transitions back from military service, or their aspirations to start their own small businesses. I realized that people join companies with meaningful goals, and I became driven to create workplaces where people can thrive as they work toward both personal and company success.
After continuing my Human Resources and Culture experience for 15 years in companies like Hermes of Paris, TaskUs, UNICEF, and Tier One Entertainment, I decided to start Kulture Ko.
Kulture Ko: The beginnings
After living and working in HR around the concrete jungles of the New York City area, curiosity led me to explore the island culture and work culture in the Philippines. In January 2018, I took a trip to La Union, Philippines to surf and attend an HR meeting by the beach.
I had a meeting with Kiddo, Founder of El Union coffee, to talk about Human Resources over a few cups of the infamous El Union dirty horchatas. After 10 years of being in Human Resources, this was the first HR meeting I’ve experienced workplace culture being the main topic. The results of a unique El Union workplace culture were great. The team worked well together and had fun surfing together. This was unique for me because I’ve always experienced culture being under the Human Resources department, but what if Human Resources was under Culture?
The “What if?” became the “What is” of KultureKo while I sat on my surfboard during the sunset surfing session reflecting on my learnings today. The idea of KultureKo was formed on the foundation of prioritizing human culture before human resources in order to see happier people in the workplace.
Kulture Ko was created with the vision of a collaborative community (including foodie trips), bringing together talented professionals beyond just myself. Today, our team includes exceptional individuals from diverse fields, including Human Resources, Health and Wellness, and the Performing Arts, each contributing unique expertise and perspectives to help build a vibrant, people-centered workplace culture. Meet Des, Reg, Ethan, Bea, and Bianca!
We’ve partnered with over 20 companies across the USA, Philippines, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Australia, working closely with their HR and Culture teams to champion a 'humans first' approach to workplace culture. It has been an incredible journey and we look forward to working with you@
